Katy Perry: One of the Boys

Her success began with her first single "I kissed a girl" which was #1 in about 20 countries and caused a huge riot in the music industry and in the U.S. . Many people were shocked by the "lesbian content of the song" and Perry had to deal with huge critizsm. But all in all, it's just a song that was very successful in 2008 (22 x Platinum, 2 x Gold)
Her second single "Hot'n'Cold" was also very successful. "Hot'n'Cold" gained 17 x Platinum and 4 x Gold and was # 1 in 18 countries.
After releasing such "up-beat" singles, she decided to release a charmful song with a smooth melody, which is called "Thinking of you". The Song's about a girl who's still missing her ex-boyfriend but is already having a new boyfriend.
In the beginning of 2009, Katy Perry released another single with the title "Waking up in Vegas" which was more like her previous singles "I kissed a girl" and "Hot'n'Cold".
But both singles, "Thinking of you" and "Waking up in Vegas" weren't as successful as the first ones "I kissed a girl" and "Hot'n'Cold.
However, Katy Perry has also recorded songs with other artists and was featured on several collaborations such as the song "Starstrukk" (with 3OH!3) and "If we ever meet again" on Timbaland's brand new album "Timbaland presents: Shock Value II".
1.One of the Boys
The opening track "One of the Boys" is such a great song. It's about a girl who wants to be the girlfriend of some boy and not only one of his friends. At first, he doesn't see her as a real "girl" he would like to date but when she turns into a "stylish" girl; one that shaves her leg and looks really nice, he wants to get her.
2. I kissed a girl
Perry's first single "I kissed a girl" was a huge hit in 2008, but also caused a huge riot. Many parents were shocked by the lesbian content and boycotted the song. One church in the U.S. put a sign in front of their entrance that said "I kissed a girl and went to hell".
3. Waking up in Vegas
In "Waking up in Vegas" Katy tells us a story about what can happen when a girl and a boy are in Las Vegas. And sometimes the saying "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" doesn't go right.
4. Thinking of you
"Thinking of you" is one of the slower songs on the album. It tells a story about a girl that is still in love with her ex-boyfriend and misses him, but is already having a new boyfriend. She truly regrets her decision of letting him go for the new guy.
"When I'm with him, I am thinking of you."
5. Mannequin
In "Mannequin" Katy desperatly tries to find the answer to the question "How do I get closer to you?".
6. Ur so gay
"Ur so gay" was supposed to be her first single. The song's about a boy she hates but can not get him out of her head. And she's angry cause she can't get himself out of his head and all he thinks about is himself.
"You're so mean, cause I can not get you out of your head. I'm so angry, cause you rubber my space instead. I can't believe I fell in love with someone that wears more make-up and ur so gay and you don't even like boys.
7. Hot'n'cold
Her hit-single "Hot'n'Cold is about a couple and the boy's always changing his mind about the relationship.
"Cause you're hot than you're cold (..) we fight we break up, we kiss we make out. You don't really wanna stay, but you don't really wanna go..."
8. If you can afford me
This song's about all the things you have to do and offer to get Katy Perry. And there are a lot of things a man must do to get her heart.
9. Lost
Katy describes in this song the way you feel when you're confused; you're just "lost" and don't know which way to go.
10. Self Inflicted
"Self Infliced" is the best song to fit the gap between the slow sentimental songs "Lost" and "I'm still breathing". Katy tries to put you back into the "party" mood and she succeeds.
11. I'm still breathing
In "I'm still breathing" Katy sings about a sad girl who does everything (if you read between the lines she threatens to commit suicide: "you best prepare a speech; Say something funny, say something sweet, but don't say that you loved me") to get the attention of her ex-boyfriend => "I sleep with candles burning, I leave the door unlocked...Do I get your attention 'cause I'm sending all those signs?"
"I'm still breathing" must be the most sentimental and soulful song Katy ever made.
12. Fingerprints
"One of the Boys" ends with a real party song - She's "leaving her fingerprints on us".
