Katy Perry and Snoop Dog - California Gurls
California is the land of eternal sunshine, or at least, that's what those of us who don't live there believe, so what could be better for summer than a song about girls who spend their time enjoying the sun on the beach? Not to mention it's got Katy's usual tongue in cheek lyrics.
You could travel the world, but nothing comes close to the Golden Coast...

The Graham Norton Show Performance

Selena Gomez and the Scene - Round and Round
I didn't really like the first album put out by Selena and her band, but if this song is any indication of where the next album is going, I'm on board. The song is catchy with a fun sound. And the music video with Selena as a spy? Love it.
Well you're gonna miss me 'cause I'm getting dizzy goin' round and round...

B.O.B featuring Haley Williams - Airplanes
One of the slower songs on my playlist, because you have to wind down every once in a while. I love the way Haley Williams sounds on this song, and this is really a song I can listen to over and over and never get sick of, which doesn't usually happen for me when so many of the lyrics are rapped.
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? Cause I could really use a wish right now...

Ke$ha - Your Love is My Drug
Ke$ha is another artist on here whose album I don't particularly love, but this song lodges itself in my brain and has me tapping my feet to the beat all day. It's the perfect fun summer song.
What you got boy, is hard to find. I think about it all the time...

The Today Show Performance

Miley Cyrus - Can't Be Tamed
Miley's latest single is anthemic in the same way that so many of Britney Spears' songs were early in her career. It's fun, fast paced, and definite insurance that she's going to go down in pop culture history.
I wanna fly, I wanna drive, I wanna go. I wanna be a part of something I don't know...

Good Morning America Performance

Emily Osment - Let's Be Friends
This song is the first single released from Emily's upcoming album, and it's so different from her EP. It's fun, more mature, and a dance track that could rival Miley's Can't Be Tamed. It makes me really excited for her album (which should be dropping at the end of summer, well, summer in my section of the world anyway.) Hey, what's your name? I think I like you...

The Cast of Glee - To Sir, With Love
To be honest, this really makes my summer list because I miss Glee so much! It such a sweet song, and the performance of it in the show embodies everything that musicals should, so it's the song I'm listening to while I wait impatiently for the new season to come along.
The time has come for closing books, and long last looks must end...

Submit your Playlist

Want to write your own playlist and see it published here at Portrait?

Guidelines:

  • Keep it clean. Theme wise and song wise. Obscenity laden or highly suggestive songs aren't appropriate for our readers and won't be published.
  • Keep to your theme.
  • The minimum number of songs for a playlist is seven (one for each day of the week). We realize sometimes you want a little more and sometimes you want an album length playlist so there is an option to include a total of 10 songs. Only 7 are required.
  • The 'Your Comments on this Song' can either be your words on why you like the song or think others should check it out, or an excerpt from the lyrics (four lines maximum.)
