Want to be a Part of the Portrait Team?

Portrait Magazine exists thanks to the collaborative efforts of a group of young, ambitious and enthusiastic people and we’re always looking for new people to help keep the site running and growing.

The good news is you don’t just have to be a writer to be a part of Portrait. We’re also looking for graphic designers and blog and news informants.

Writing Positions
The Portrait writing staff contribute articles that run in our monthly issues as well as smaller, more frequent articles for our ‘This Week @ Portrait’ section which serves as a mini issue. We’ve got a whole bunch of positions we need writers for and we’re always looking for fun ideas for new columns and articles we could run in the magazine.

We’re always looking for new people to share their wallpapers and siggys in our respective sub sites but we also need new people to create fun ‘Word Find’ games, create snazzy images for our blog and do other odds and ends that come up.

Blogger/Blogger Informant
The Portrait Blog is full of all the latest news, trailers, music videos and images and we're always looking for people to help maintain it. There's two jobs you can take involving the blog. You can be an actual blogger who sources information and posts it directly to the blog or you can be in charge of sending in news on a certain subject (like a person or tv show) whenever it arises for our bloggers to post.

Picture Poster
Are you one of those people who loves finding the latest celeb pictures from red carpets, magazine spreads or even TV and Movie promo stills? We’re looking for people to help contribute celeb galleries to the Portrait Magazine blog and our sub site Portrait Pictures. The job is simple, finding the images and uploading them then posting them to the site (or sending them to one of the bloggers) with credit to your source.

Comments from the Portrait Team
While it's fun and it helps you grow, being a part of Portrait still involves work. The site is non profit so you don't get paid. Not sure if writing for Portrait is the thing for you? Read what some of our current writers have said about the experience.

My personal opinion is that if you like to write (or make graphics), you should definitely, one hundred percent join the team. Not only are we a friendly group (we don't bite!), we also help each other in so many ways. I've gained new friendships from writing for Portrait, and I'm so thankful for everyone. I've always been a big dreamer, but since writing for Portrait, I've decided that my dreams are possible and that they can come true. Don't regret not joining the team. If it's your goal to do something with journalism, or even if it's not, you should try writing for Portrait. It's an amazing experience, and it's taught me a lot. - Emily

If you're willing to put in the work, it's worth the effort. - Fran

Do it, plain as! You won't regret joining the team, because it's like one big family or group of friends. I don't think I have come across anyone who isn't lovely and friendly on the team. And they don't just stick to there own articles, there always willing to help you out. - Sunshine

I've brought in 2 writers already and I usually try to emphasize the benefits. You get to be part of a team, branch out of your comfort zone, add some awesome experience to a resume and so many other reasons. It's a tough market for aspiring writers. Most magazines say you need experience to get an assignment but you need an assignment to get experience. Portrait really helps to bridge that gap. - Melissa

I'd say go for it! If writing or designing is something you love to do, and is possibly something you want to do in the future, then join the team. It's great practice and you'll learn so much from the experience. - Sunshine

Definitely try it out. It’s so much fun and it isn’t that hard. Everyone on the team is nice and I’ve had such a great time writing for the magazine. - Sean

Just do it – you’ll gain so much knowledge from working with such a great team! - Simone
