Jamie Alexander

How did you get into acting?
JA: Well it was kind of by chance. I got told in Texas that I could give it a shoot. So I went for it. It was never a childhood passion of mine.

How old were you when this all happened?
JA: I was almost 19. So I was 18 when I moved out to LA.

What are the best and worst parts of acting?
JA: The best parts are getting a job and doing it well. The worst parts are not knowing when your next shot is going to come.

So it’s a very unstable job?
JA: Yes, very unstable.

What are you working on currently?
JA: I’m working on a show for ABC called Kyle XY. I play a character very similar to a superhero and a very strong female character that has a very dark side.

Woo, must be pretty fun to play! Are you similar to that character?
JA: I’m very similar to the strong female character but I have yet to play someone a bit dark or evil. I works for me. Odd quickly enough I really like it so I don’t know what that says about me.

Is it difficult to play someone that is not similar to yourself?
JA: It is but at the same time I think everybody has a side to them that they can branch out. I think everybody has a desirer to sorta be a superhero and save the day. There’s also a side to that is actually fun to play someone evil. And you understand it, it’s a human nature. But yea it can be difficult sometimes.

Who do you most hope to work with in the future?
JA: I would say Jake Gyllenhaal. I have a crush on him. He is very talented actually or Johnny Depp.

Oh yea, good chooses.
JA: I think everybody would like to work with Johnny Depp.

How do you balance your acting career and your regular life?
JA: It’s hard. I think acting is a life style rather than a career chose. The hours are very long. You just have to know now to relax stress after work. Like taking a bath or doing whatever, just get yourself out of work mood. Just spend a few hours a day out of work. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain. But I on the weekends I go hiking, I get out of the city and I try to drive. You diffidently have to have a good separation between what’s going on in your life and your work life. It’s really hard because of the long hours.

Have you ever had an embarrassing moment with a fan?
JA: Yes! I’ve had quite a few. I very like a big prankster and I’m very like a class clown type of person. I used to love to wrestle in high school. So there were some very embarrassing moments in there. I got pants in the 9th grade. In was in front of my entire school. Of course I made it kind of like a joke. So I was running around doing a skit or like what we call a pep rally which is a get together before we go out to a football game. So that was horrid. Again I just turned it into something very funny but I was still very embarrassed.

Do you get bothered if you read bad stuff about yourself in the media?
JA: I got to say I’m not to that point yet where people are writing about negative things. I have had the views of work that I’ve done that were negative. It’s always two-sided. Nobody is going to think you’re the greatest all across the world. You just kind of go with it because that’s somebody’s opinion you don’t take it personally. That’s one thing people make a mistake about is really getting it into their head that they’re just horrible and blah blah blah or whatever it is that was written. You just have to go with it and think “alright somebody decide to write something like that so that’s their thing”. You know it’s their opinion and you just got to go with it and look the other way. Just work hard and keep doing what you’re doing.

Well said. What advice would you give to upcoming actors?
JA: I would say just be yourself. That is like the hardest thing for people to do. You just got to get out of your own way. I’ve got some friends that will watch biographies on actors. Thinking like in the past that’s a compliment or whatever and they’re thinking that going to make you a good actor, when it’s not that. All you have to be yourself because no one else is you. So when you walk into a room for an audition you are so different from anybody in there. You have to be happy for what you look like, what you are, and who you are. It sounds so of crèche, but its spoketure. So if I can just feed that to everybody’s head that wants to be actors. I think it would be a lot easier for them to accomplish for what they are following after.
