Hi Amy! It’s been awhile since we last interviewed you, what have you been up to since then?
Hi!! Ya it has been awhile! I have been super crazy busy! I released my debut album BROKEN and have started writing and recording a ton of new tracks for my second album. One of my newest tracks “Don’t Stop” is currently on my official site www.amyfam.com. I’ve also been doing a lot of touring, finishing up school, and starting to shop my music to major labels. And on top of all that, I just opened up my very own dance studio in Medford, MA and will be teaching dance starting in the fall!
I really love your CD ‘Broken’, could you tell the readers a little about it?
Thanks so much ? The album as a whole is really about overcoming different hardships in life whether it be about boys, family, friends, etc and being able to accomplish your dreams and goals. The first song I wrote on the album was during my senior year of high school (the song “Sometimes”) and at that point in my life I was feeling a little lonely, like love was never going to come my way…but since then I’ve grown up a lot and the songs stretch over a period of three years…so I think you can kind of see me grow up a little bit through out the album.
Do you have a favorite song on ‘Broken’? Could you tell us about it and why you love it?
Broken and Just Let Me Be are my favorite songs. Broken has such a great message in it…that no matter how hopeless things really seem…all you need to do is be driven and dedicated and you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. I really like Just Let Me Be as well because it is kind of my way of fighting back with certain people in my life who have turned on me and have treated me a certain way based on what they “thought” about me…not what they actually “knew” about me. I think it is a song that all people can relate to…because we all struggle with conflict.
Tell us about the recording process for ‘Broken’
Well recording is a fairly new process to me. The first song I ever recorded in a studio was “Sometimes.” We did a lot of recording and re-recording for this record as well because my voice changed a lot over the last three years and I’ve become much more comfortable working in the studio. I had a blast recording this album…this was such an accomplishment for me! I’ve been writing songs for a very long time and to finally get them recorded and all that is such a cool feeling!
You’re working on a second CD at the moment. When is it due for release and what can we expect from it?
Hopefully I can get it out there for you guys by next summer ? I will be releasing tracks one by one as they are completed though for everyone to hear and sample on my site www.amyfam.com which is also where you can pick up my current CD BROKEN. You can expect a lot of different songs…some ballads, some harder rock songs, some softer rock/pop songs, songs that are fun, songs that give a serious message, and songs that are relatable. I love so many different kinds of music and am influenced by so much that I think everyone will definitely be able to find a song that they can relate to and can jam to! I am so excited about the two songs that we have completed so far and can’t wait for everyone out there to hear them! Hopefully by the time that CD is ready to go…you’ll be seeing me on TRL announcing a world tour or my first music video!!! hehe
You've been touring a lot recently, how is life on the road treating you? Do you have any interesting stories from touring?
I love performing! It’s the best feeling in the world to get on that stage and share your music with the audience. Life on the road is treating me well ? I love meeting my fans and being able to meet different people and see new places! I have some interesting stories, but nothing too crazy lol
Are there any bands you'd love to tour with?
I’d love to tour with Kelly Clarkson or Britney Spears. Touring with Pat Benetar or Joan Jett would be really cool too. I’m also a huge fan of bands like Aerosmith, Linkin Park, Seether, Evenescence, etc!
You’re a sophomore in college, is it difficult pursuing your music career and completing your education?
It is hard because of the distance. When I’m home I’m 10 minutes away from Boston and the studio…when I’m at school I’m about an hour away from Boston. I’ve always juggled a lot of different activities, so if I wasn’t so busy I’d be bored out of my mind! Lol I can’t wait until I’m done with school though and can concentrate 100% on my singing career. Singing and performing is my ultimate passion, but I really wanted to get my degree as well.
So many musicians now days are pursuing careers in acting. Is this something you’d ever be interested in?
I’d love to try acting some day. I think that would be a lot of fun. I think it would be really cool to do a horror or action movie. I’d want to try all the stunts!!! Lol I wouldn’t mind a romantic comedy with Paul Walker either lol…just throwing that out there!
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our questions. Do you have anything you would like to say, in closing, to the people reading this?
