As it says in their MySpace bio, Brad Thomas decided to start the Ryan O‘Reilly Band in 2008, and luckily, he found someone of the same name to front it. Whether Mr. O‘Reilly is meant to be the talking point for the band or not, he is. He‘s been interviewed on his struggles in the music scene and discussed finding his voice in songwriting. One of the crowd favorites the band is known for, “November,“ is all his lyrics. Ryan spent some time in Canada, and some of that time, as well as that music scene, has influenced his songwriting, but not much. The band has elements of Celtic rock and folk music as well as the alternative rock styling MySpace acts today are so well known for. In an interview from April, Ryan admits that record executives have come out to their shows and found the band‘s style to be a little too eclectic, a little difficult to pin down. But, maybe that‘s a good thing. They have a sound all their own. The sound is just as original as the lyrics, which are largely autobiographical.
