Myspace Band of the Week: The Shake
www.myspace.com/theshakeband

Sound is…
Rock/Indie

Members are…
Jon Merkin (Vocals, Guitar)
Eliad Shapiro (Lead Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals)
Jeremy Stein (Bass, Vocals)
Vishal Kumar (Drums, Percussion)

Jon, Eliad, Jeremy, and Vishal, reside in New York. These members of The Shake each bring their own personal sound to the mix, making this garage style band sound stellar. Why is their sound so original? Each band member specializes in a different style of music. How many bands do you know that are educated in rock, blues, jazz, and punk? They call their sound "a constantly evolving, more musically diverse style of rock that utilizes distinct melodies and harmonies in order to maintain a straightforward and familiar feel that still sounds fresh." And they definitely aren't boasting- these guys know their stuff. The Shake is completely self managed, have already been featured in a major motion picture, have a new album "Well, Oh Well" out, and have been booked at some of NYC's finest rock venues.

"Let Me Take You Far Away" blends fast and slow tempos with absolute precision. The opening of "Good Girl" will bring you into a trance for the remaining three minutes and eleven seconds. “It’s really exciting to have an album out with new songs to define us by,” says Merkin. Reflecting on the band’s past, Shapiro adds, “I don’t think any of us thought that we would write the quality of songs that we have. We thought we were just going to be one of those typical college bands that plays the bars - we’ve risen above that.

And rose above a typical college band they did- to an amazing full fledged rock band with something special.

P.s Make sure to check out their own official music video for "Manic Boogie", when you're visiting their profile. Also, The Shake's music is availible on iTunes =)
